Five Songs By Florence + The Machine

Good Evening

I most admit that at first I Thought that Florence + The Machine are just a regular group with a strange name. Only when I heard Florence Welsh's voice, I understood that she's one of the powerful voices in the Indie scene nowdays. If you wondered who is "The Machine" so the answer is Isabella Summers, the keyboard player of the band. This London-based group contains five other members: Robert Ackroyd (Guitar), Christopher Lloyd Hayden (Percussion, Drums and Backing Vocals), Tom Monger (Bass), Mark Saunders (Bass, Guitar, Backing Vocals and Percussion) and Rusty Bradshaw (Hammond and Keyboards). Although they've released only two LP's: Lungs (2009) and Ceremonials (2011), they're always on the run, performing and recording intensively. So here're five songs by this band, led by redhead Florence with the haunting voice.

1) Shake it Out (Live) Taken from Ceremonials (2011)

2) Postcards From Italy (Beirut Cover) - Not released

3) Heavy In Your Arms Taken from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse OST (2010)

4) The Dog Days Are Over (Live) Taken from Lungs (2009)

5) Breaking Down (Live) Taken from Ceremonials (2011)

One Album A Day #1: Julia Holter - Ekstasis (2012)

Good Afternoon

There is something haunting in the voice of Julia Holter, a talented Indie from Los Angeles, California. Her whispers and angel-like voice place her in my musical scale between Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) and Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) on one side and Laurie Anderson (For her experimental genre) and Joanna Newsome (For the legnth and wisdom you can find in her songs). I just finished listenning to her last release, Ekstasis (2012), and I'm still trying to figure out that brilliant piece of music I've just heard. It seems as one of the greatest albums of 2012, you have to listen it open minded and concetrated. Our sorrows and Boy in the moon were my favourite of this album, here are two samples of this album, tell me what you think about that...

Five Songs By Andrew Bird

Good Evening

Andrew Bird is definitely one of the most talented Indie Folk singer/songwriters I know these days. Trained in the Suzuki method for whistling and violin and with knowledge how to play Glockenspiel and Guitar while writing and singing makes him one of my favourites. Only this weekend I found the time to listen to his sixth studio album, Break It Yourself, which was released on 5th, March 2012. My first impression is that it's not his best album so far (I think that Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production Of Eggs and Noble Beast were better than that...), still we can find here few pearls like dreamy "Hole in The Ocean Floor" and catchy "Give It Away" as well as the duet With St. Vincent singer Annie Clark, "Lusitania". So here are five choices from his career so far, enjoy

1) Fake Palindromes Taken From Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production Of Eggs (2005)

2) Natural Disaster Taken From Noble Beast (2009)

3) Lusitania Taken From Break It Yourself (2012)

4) Armchairs Taken From Armchair Apocrypha (2007)

5) Souverian Taken From Noble Beast (2009)

Five Songs By Bernard Butler

Good Evening

That's been a long time since I've heard Bernard Butler's albums. This former Britpop band Suede guitarist, which was ranked at the 24th place as one of the greatest British guitarists ever, had a short solo career, too short for my point of view. I've got the copies of his two full albums: People Move On (1998) and Friends & Lovers (1999), as well as his single Stay (1998) of his first album. On his solo albums you can find some songs which were inspired by Nick Drake as well as songs which seems that were taken from a hidden Suede album. Hoping to hear him again singing on the stage, here are five reminders for his great music, enjoy

1) Stay Taken from People Move On (1998)

2) Cocoon Taken from Friends & Lovers (1999)

3) Smile Taken from Friends & Lovers (1999)

4) You Light The Fire Taken from People Move On (1998)

5) The Sea Taken from Stay (1998), B-side Track

Five Songs By School Of Seven Bells

Good Evening

About a month ago, I listened to Ghostory the third album of the New-York based trio called School Of Seven Bells. It sounds like a collaboration of 80's new wave music with Shoegaze and Dream-Pop style. Benjamin Curtis met twin sister Alejandra and Claudia Deheza as they played before Interpol gigs. Starting working together since 2007, they released three records so far, which becomes more professional and interesting as time goes by. So here's five songs of this great Trio - Enjoy

1) ILU Taken From Disconnect From Desire (2010)

2) Connjur Taken From Alpinism (2008)

3) Lafaye Taken From Ghostory (2012)

4) Babelonia Taken From Disconnect From Desire (2010)

5) When You Sing Taken From Ghostory (2012)

Five Songs By Damien Jurado

Good Evening

Two weeks ago, Damien Jurado, an American singer/songwrtier from Washington State released his tenth studio album called Maraqopa (2012). This talented person makes music which floats between Indie Folk and Americana, and has became one of my favourites before I go to sleep. For all those who like his music and for some others which don't know him yet, here are five songs sung by him, enjoy

1) Denton, Tx. Taken From And Now That I'm Your Shadow (2006)

2) Museum Of Flight Taken From Maraqopa (2012)

3) Cloudy Shoes Taken From Saint Bartlett (2010)

4) Omaha Taken From Where Shall You Take Me? (2003)

Five Songs By Goldfrapp

Good Evening

Singles by the British Electric Pop Dou called Goldfrapp was released at the beginning of this year. It concludes some of the highlights of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory through the last 13 years together. I've heard them first on their magnificent debut album Felt Mountain (2000) and purchased thier second when I was on a trip to Barcelona. Their style moves somewhere between Down-Tempo and Soft Electronics, which sometimes considered as an 80's hit. So here are five songs by this great Dou, enjoy....

1) Black Cherry Taken From Black Cherry (2003)

2) Dreaming Taken From Head First (2010)

3) Utopia Taken From Felt Mountain (2000)

4) Ride A White Horse Taken From Supernature (2005)

5) Clowns Taken From Seventh Tree (2008)
